I grew up playing hockey and spent more hours than I can count in community rec centers and local rinks. I played for the Medicine Hat Tigers and Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League (yes, it was a long time ago), but it was the care and support of my community that cheered me along. I see the same support in Chestermere. We have young families that are looking for ways to cheer on our kids in hockey, dance, soccer and countless other activities.
Our Recreation Centre is run by great people who care a lot about kids and their families. But their hard work is hampered by a convoluted mess of bureaucracy that fails the families in our community. The facility is on Rocky View County land but in the middle of the City of Chestermere. This means two governments are involved in decision-making and it means mounting frustration for those trying to move things forward and provide more amenities for our families. If elected Mayor I will work with our neighbours in Rocky View Council to find a solution to this situation. I intend to get to the bottom of this, make it right, and allow our facility to be all it can be for our residents.
